The annual Bard Music Festival focuses on a single composer; in which “the biography of the composer, the influences and consequences of that composer’s achievement, and all aspects of the musical culture surrounding the time and place of the composer’s life are explored”. fishercenter
This year I was honored to design the book cover, along with the brochure, and finally the program, which involved extensive research of photos, historic propaganda design, and the artists’ personal milestones. One of my proudest achievements was creating the timeline of Shostakovich’s life that runs along the top of the page throughout the program, instead of the customarily staid two-page spread. The other, of course, is getting approval to use the image of Shostakovich smoking on a print couch in front of striped (perhaps flocked) wallpaper wearing striped socks against a Persian carpet. Still a career highlight!
